OPENING CEREMONIES:  Another tremendous Tournament started with an Opening Ceremony to be remembered!  The MC, Dan O’Neill (Rachel’s Uncle) reminded everyone of why we gather for this great weekend of 3 Pitch baseball, live entertainment, good food, friends, and family — to raise money for PMHF & Dr. Irish and his team of researchers.  Dan noted this year, before the Tournament had even started – we had reached an amazing milestone of over $500,000 donated to PMHF (with the onset of the online opportunity for teams to raise pledges)! Jaimie Shen of PMHF was onhand to say a few words. Dan then went on to make a few comments of special note ~ a portion of the monies raised during the weekend would be donated to the West Parry Sound Health Centre; the 2 raffle items (handmade quilt and hand crafted cedar canoe) would be on display over the weekend and the person who made the quilt for this year and last; Jack Smith of Sarnia, was in attendance; and as well, Dan noted the accomplishment of two teams in particular through the new system for team registration and online pledges — Team Michael and Sons of Pitches – that together raised over $18,000 through online donations in honour of Michael Gilchrist.  Sarah Borlase of Team Michael was recognized by Joanne Higgins for her achievement of raising over $2800 on her own!  Once these announcements were made, those present had the pleasure of enjoying a performance to the song “Believe It” from the movie Honey, by the Parry Sound Dance Academy.  It was an exceptional performance and the song was chosen as PMHF’s new slogan is BELIEVE IT!  To round out the Opening Ceremony – the Spirit Award was presented to both of the teams – Team Michael and Sons of Pitches for their amazing spirit and efforts to raise much needed research money for PMHF; and once Kristen House impressed us with her beautiful rendition of Oh Canada; members of Team Michael and Sons of Pitches officially kicked off the tournament by throwing the Opening Pitch!

WEEKEND ACTIVITIES:    The 3 day event of course included 3-Pitch Baseball with 32 teams, including a Friday night Fish Fry, two nights of live entertainment, the ever-popular Silent Auction, BBQ/Concession, Fireworks and the Beer Tent!

Unfortunately due to lots and lots of rain, a decision was made for the safety of the players that the final games would not be played!  So the trophy will include the names of the final four:  Congratulations to all team players on all four teams!!

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT IN BEER TENT:  Friday Night – we introduced a Toronto band Wild T & the Spirit - and the crowd had a fantastic time!  Then on Saturday night The Travelling Beer Bellies returned to entertain the crowd and everyone enjoyed dancing the night away!

SPECIAL NOTES:   This year there were two exquisite raffle items – The quilt, which was handmade and donated by Jack Smith of Sarnia, was won by Janice Clark of Oshawa, and raised over $1200!  The handcrafted cedar canoe which was made by John Payne of Hampton, was won by Joe Johnson of McDougall, and raised over $3000!  …Thank you for these amazing donations…and congratulations to the winners of these beautiful pieces of art!
